The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ate a moderate amount of food. Among what was reported in his Sunnah was his love for sweets and honey, and dates, about which he said: "A house with no dates in it, its people are hungry." Dates and water largely constituted his diet, peace and blessings be upon him. He also praised vinegar, saying: "Vinegar is an excellent condiment or relish." He recommended olive oil, saying: "Eat oil and anoint yourselves with it, for it is from a blessed tree." He and his family never had their fill of barley bread for two consecutive days until he passed away. Milk was among the foods he loved most, and he chose it over wine on the night of Al-Isra and Al-Mi'raj.

It was not the Prophet's custom, peace and blessings be upon him, to eat more than two meals a day. Sometimes, they might only find one meal. It is not permissible to attribute the detailed arrangement of meals to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in this order and detail.
