How did the Messenger of Allah, (peace and blessings be upon him), break his fast?
One of the characteristics of the Prophet's natural disposition (fitra) was to hasten breaking the fast after verifying the sunset, in accordance with his saying, peace be upon him: "People will continue to be upon goodness as long as they hasten breaking the fast." He used to break his fast with fresh dates (rutab), and if none were available, then dried dates (tamr). If those were not available, he would break his fast with water, along with the traditional supplication (du'a) at the time of breaking the fast.
