Is it better to break the fast immediately after sunset or after the light has faded from the sky?

The Sunnah is to hasten breaking the fast immediately after sunset. Delaying it until the stars become visible is an act of the Jews and the Rafidha (Shi'a). Sahl ibn Sa'd reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The people will continue to be upon goodness as long as they hasten the breaking of the fast." This Hadith indicates that the Ummah remains upon goodness as long as it preserves this Sunnah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to hasten breaking the fast when night approached. It is authentically reported from Aisha that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to hasten both breaking the fast and prayer. Among the later innovations is delaying the breaking of the fast under the pretext of caution, and this contradicts the Sunnah.
