It is permissible to invest in companies if they operate in a permissible field, do not deal with usury (riba), and pay genuine profits to investors, not usurious interest. If any of these conditions are not met, then it is not permissible to invest in them, because a Muslim is required to seek out what is lawful in their earnings, as evidenced by the Hadith: "The feet of a servant will not move on the Day of Resurrection until he is asked about four things: about his life and how he spent it, about his knowledge and what he did with it, about his wealth - from where he acquired it and in what he spent it, and about his body and how he used it."
