The question

Is a wife entitled to seek divorce or khul’ if she is psychologically harmed by her husband's marriage to another, despite his fairness in providing for her and in overnight stays, and her feeling of a lack of emotional connection and psychological fulfillment from his side? And is this harm considered among the "hardship" (al-ba’s) that permits her to do so without incurring the sin mentioned in the prophetic hadiths?

The answer

It is not advisable to seek divorce as long as the husband fears Allah and fulfills his obligations, because divorce has severe consequences, and what the wife feels may be from the whispers of Satan. Allah has commanded husbands to keep their wives even if they dislike them, citing His exalted saying: "And live with them in kindness. For if you dislike them - perhaps you dislike a thing and Allah makes therein much good." Not all homes are built on love, but rather on good companionship and Islam. Many women regret divorce after it is too late, so she should fear Allah and supplicate frequently for the hearts to be reconciled. If her soul is not appeased after exhausting all means and she fears falling short in his rights, then there is no blame upon her at that time in seeking divorce or khulʿ.
