Is it permissible to buy homes with usury in a case of extreme necessity?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
Borrowing with interest (riba) is forbidden and impermissible unless there is a necessity that cannot be averted by any other means. If there is no necessity, or if there are permissible alternatives, then it is not permissible to borrow with interest to buy homes if one is capable of renting. Whoever does so has committed a grave sin, and the blessing of usurious money will be obliterated, and they will face war from Allah. Therefore, one must fear Allah and not borrow with interest except in cases of extreme necessity. Allah will create a way out for them and provide for them from where they do not expect.
