What is the authenticity of the hadith: "Moses asked his Lord: 'Where can I find You?' So Allah Almighty answered him: 'I am the companion of whoever remembers Me, and wherever My servant seeks Me, he will find Me, O Moses, I am with those whose hearts are broken.'"? What is its meaning, and is it permissible to say that Allah sits with us?

"I am the companion of those who remember Me" is a narration for which there is no sound chain of transmission (isnad) back to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Rather, it is from the sayings of Ka'b al-Ahbar. Imam Ahmad reported it in "Al-Zuhd" from Ata' ibn Abi Marwan al-Aslami, from his father, from Ka'b, that Musa (Moses), peace be upon him, asked his Lord about His proximity to him, and Allah answered him, "I am the companion of those who remember Me." Ka'b al-Ahbar was a Jew who embraced Islam after the passing of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he used to narrate from the Israelite scriptures. It is permissible to narrate from the reports of the People of the Book as long as our religion does not contradict them, but we neither fully affirm them nor fully deny them. The description of Allah as "the companion" (al-jalees) in Ka'b's report is not found in the texts of revelation to confirm it; rather, the attribute of "accompaniment" (al-ma'iyyah) has been reported.
