The question

Is it permissible to hold a mixed-gender wedding, especially given the groom's belief that it is more "modest" for girls who wish to dance and remove their hijab, and that the presence of his friends to watch the wedding video is essential, along with the family's desire for a strong fatwa prohibiting this?

The answer

Marriage must be built on a sound foundation by avoiding forbidden acts and sins before and during weddings, especially the impermissible mixing between men and women. The one who does so is sinful, and the one who aids in it is also sinful. Marriage conducted in this manner incurs a great burden of sin. The young man and woman must fear Allah and distance themselves from what angers Him, and they should not seek people's pleasure by incurring Allah's displeasure. The bride's family should not burden the young man beyond his capacity, and there should be no extravagance or squandering during these occasions.
