Is bargaining over the dowry permissible, or is it considered a flaw that diminishes the girl's worth?

Bargaining over an exorbitant dowry is not a flaw; however, exaggeration in dowries is religiously condemned and has undesirable consequences. Reducing and facilitating the dowry is an indication of the woman's blessedness and the marriage's auspiciousness, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The most blessed of women are those with the least burden (in terms of dowry)."
