What is the ruling on delaying one's arrival at the mosque to avoid leading the worshippers in prayer?

It is incumbent upon the most skilled reciter of the Qur’an among the mosque's people to lead the congregational prayer and not to delay in leading if he is put forward. If he fears showing off (riyaa'), he must strive against his own self, for the cure for riyaa' is not by abandoning the deed. If there is someone more skilled in recitation than him, it is appropriate to suggest that he be put forward. One must not delay in catching the opening takbir (Takbirat al-Ihram) with the Imam. For whoever prays to Allah for forty days in congregation, catching the first takbir with the Imam, two immunities will be written for him: immunity from hypocrisy and immunity from the Fire. In conclusion: One should not delay in catching the opening takbir with the Imam for the aforementioned reason, and if you wish, you may lead the prayer, otherwise, you may excuse yourself.
