What is the ruling of the Sharia on a husband who gets angry with his wife for preparing their sick children to go to the doctor without his permission, refuses to go with her, then demands her blind obedience, cites hadiths about the husband's right over his wife, refuses to treat her kindly, forces her into marital relations despite her crying and unwillingness, and rejects the mediation of relatives to resolve the dispute? Is the wife obligated to obey him in this case, or is she permitted to refuse? And what should she do if the husband rejects the mediation of relatives?

Spouses should be keen to fulfill their obligations, maintain a good relationship, resolve problems with kindness and understanding, and resort to Islamic law in case of dispute. If one spouse falls short, the other is not permitted to reciprocate that shortcoming. Therefore, the wife must obey her husband and not refuse to share his bed, even if he falls short in her rights, because refusal is a grave sin, and the angels curse a woman whose husband spends the night angry with her. A wife may complain to her husband's mother or her own mother, but if the husband strongly objects to this, it is better to postpone this option and try to reach an understanding gently. The husband, for his part, must fear Allah and fulfill his wife's rights, including financial support and good treatment, and live with her honorably, emulating the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in his excellent conduct, for "the best among you is he who is best to his family."
