Conflicts often arise in biographies and accounts of military expeditions due to their lack of transmission with authentic chains of narration.

Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal says: "Three books have no foundation: Al-Maghazi (military expeditions), Al-Malahim (apocalyptic battles), and Al-Tafsir (Qur'anic exegesis)."

Most books of biographies and military expeditions contain mursal (disconnected) narrations. However, the multiplicity of mursal narrations can indicate the authenticity of the core story and event.

Umm Hakim bint Al-Harith married Ikrimah ibn Abi Jahl, who was martyred. She then married Khalid ibn Sa'id ibn Al-Aas, who was also martyred.

Historians and biographers differ on the battle in which Ikrimah and Khalid were martyred, and on the date and sequence of these battles. The majority of scholars hold that Ikrimah was martyred in Ajnadayn (Jumada al-Ula 13 AH), and Khalid was martyred in Marj al-Saffar (Muharram 14 AH).

The disagreement among historians regarding the sequence and dates of events does not affect the core historical information.
