How exactly were Ali, may Allah honor his countenance, and Hussein, may Allah be pleased with him, killed?

History books mention that Ali ibn Abi Talib was killed by Abd al-Rahman ibn Muljam, who struck him with a sword in Kufa on a Friday, and he died of his wounds two days later. As for Husayn ibn Ali, he was killed in Karbala after refusing to pledge allegiance to Yazid, and narrations mention that he was martyred along with a number of his family and companions after being surrounded by the army of Abdullah ibn Ziyad.
