The answer

We have not found any basis for the saying that Musa (Moses), peace be upon him, saw Allah; it is not authentic, because Musa (peace be upon him) did not see Allah in this world. When he requested to see Him, Allah Almighty answered him: "You will not see Me." Allah Almighty mentioned this in the Holy Quran: "And when Moses arrived at Our appointed time and his Lord spoke to him, he said, 'My Lord, show me [Yourself] that I may look at You.' He said, 'You will not see Me, but look at the mountain; if it remains in its place, then you will see Me.' But when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He rendered it a flat dust, and Moses fell unconscious. And when he awoke, he said, 'Exalted are You! I have repented to You, and I am the first of the believers.'" (Al-A'raf: 143). The exegetes explained that the meaning of "and I am the first of the believers" is "the first to believe that no one can see Him in this world."
