What is the ruling on participating in non-Islamic forums, such as Christian ones?

A Muslim is not permitted to participate in forums of disbelievers, such as Jews and Christians, because such forums frequently involve cursing God, His religion, and His Messenger. There is an explicit prohibition against looking into their books. Such participation strengthens these forums, contributes to their continuation, and exposes the Muslim to temptation. Moreover, they generally only publish what benefits them.

An exception is made for established scholars and advanced students of knowledge who are capable of refuting falsehood.
