Does the exit of a large amount of blood resulting from a deep wound invalidate the fast?
Abundant bleeding from a fasting person due to a wound or other cause does not invalidate the fast. This is the opinion of Imams Malik, Shafi'i, and Abu Hanifa. They based their view on the hadith where the Prophet (peace be upon him) underwent cupping while fasting. Some scholars believe that the hadith "The one who cups and the one who is cupped have broken their fast" is abrogated by the hadith "The Prophet (peace be upon him) allowed cupping for the fasting person." Imam Ahmad, however, stated that cupping invalidates the fast, citing the hadith "The one who cups and the one who is cupped have broken their fast," but permission for it has been established.
