The answer

The deceased will receive their due on the Day of Resurrection from those who backbit or slandered them, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Rights will be rendered to their owners on the Day of Resurrection, even the hornless sheep will be avenged on the horned sheep," and his saying: "Whoever has wronged his brother concerning his honor or anything else, let him seek his forgiveness today, before there is no dinar or dirham." Backbiting the dead is worse than backbiting the living, because it is possible to seek forgiveness from the living and for them to pardon, unlike the dead.
