Is it permissible to eat and drink during the Friday prayer?

- Shafi'is and Hanbalis: It is disliked (makruh) to eat and drink, except in cases of severe thirst, in which case it is permissible.

- The most preponderant opinion is the prohibition of eating and drinking during the sermon because it distracts one from listening and disturbs the worshippers. However, drinking is permitted in cases of severe thirst that preoccupies the worshipper from listening to the sermon.
