Is it sufficient to give a charity equivalent to the stolen money to someone without their knowledge, after repentance and remorse, instead of returning the money directly to them?

As long as you know the rightful owner, you must return it to her. It is not sufficient to simply give it away in charity on her behalf, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The hand is responsible for what it has taken until it returns it."
