Is it permissible to give away ill-gotten money as charity if its owner refuses to take it back and also refuses to forgive?
Repentance from any sin is valid if its conditions are met: abandoning the sin, regretting it, and resolving not to return to it. If the sin involves the right of another human being, then the right must be returned to its owner or forgiveness must be sought from him. It is not sufficient to merely give charity with the money unless it is impossible to deliver it to him. If the owner of the money is present, his money should be delivered to him by any possible means, and it is not a condition that he knows where the money came from. If he refuses to take his right, then keep the money and seize an opportunity to deliver it to him without his knowledge. One can also seek help from someone who can admonish him and remind him of the necessity of assisting him in his repentance.
