Is it permissible for a Muslim man to marry a disbelieving woman who has no religion?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

A Muslim man is not permitted to marry a disbelieving woman, based on the Almighty's saying: "Neither are they [the disbelieving women] lawful [wives] for them [the Muslim men], nor are they [the Muslim men] lawful [husbands] for them [the disbelieving women]." An exception to this is the chaste women from among the People of the Book, based on the Almighty's saying: "and the chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture."
