What is the meaning of the noble Hadith: "The one who overstrains his riding animal [travels neither] far nor does he spare its back"?

The munbatt is one whose journey was interrupted and whose mount became incapacitated. It is said: "The munbatt neither covered ground nor spared his mount," meaning he did not reach his destination and incapacitated his mount. Aḥadīth with this meaning have been reported, among them from Jābir, with the wording: "Indeed, this religion is firm, so enter into it gently, and do not make the worship of Allah hateful to yourself, for the munbatt neither covered ground nor spared his mount." And it was reported from Abū Hurayrah: "Indeed, this religion is ease, and no one will ever overpower the religion but it will overpower him."
