Has it been established in Islamic law that angels circumcise males at birth?

There is no legal basis (Shar'i origin) indicating that a baby born circumcised was circumcised by angels. What has been narrated — that Gabriel circumcised the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him — has been weakened by scholars. Ibn al-Qayyim pointed out that its chain of narration is not sound, and that it is anomalous and peculiar when compared to other narrations of the hadith of the splitting of the Prophet's heart, peace and blessings be upon him, which do not mention circumcision.
