What is the ruling of Islamic law concerning divorcing one's wife after many years of marriage and having children, due to discomfort in bed and with raising the children?
The questioner is advised to adhere to Allah Almighty's saying: "And do not forget the favor between you," and the Prophet's (PBUH) saying: "No believing man should hate a believing woman; if he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another." Therefore, one should not separate from a wife with whom he has lived for twenty years and had children, unless life has reached a dead end. This is while knowing that the nature of women contains some crookedness, as stated in the Hadith: "Indeed, a woman was created from a rib, and she will never be straight for you on one path. If you enjoy her, you enjoy her with her crookedness. If you try to straighten her, you will break her, and breaking her is divorcing her."
