The question

What is the ruling on the very light passing of gas that a worshipper sometimes feels? Does it necessitate repeating ablution and prayer? And does the ruling on frequent incontinence apply to it?

The answer

If you are afflicted with waswasah (obsessive whispering/doubts), turn away from it and do not pay attention to it. Ablution is not invalidated merely by doubt; rather, it is only invalidated by certain conviction. If you are certain that wind has exited, and its exit is continuous or its time of cessation is unknown, then your ruling is that of one afflicted with incontinence (sils), and you perform ablution for each prayer after its time has begun. Your prayer is valid, and you are not required to repeat it. However, if you know a specific time when the exit of wind ceases, then it is not permissible for you to pray without purification if the occurrence of the hadath (ritual impurity) is certain, and repeating the prayer is obligatory in this case.
