Where are the living martyrs who are provided for by their Lord, and in which heaven are they?

The intended meaning of the martyrs' life is not that their bodies are not in their graves; rather, they are in them and will be resurrected from them on the Day of Judgment. What is meant is a special life for their souls, exceeding the mere fact of souls' survival, characterized by the realization of life's effects such as pleasures and delightful perceptions with their Lord. This life differs from the worldly life of bodies or the life of the souls of other people. The Sunnah has indicated that the souls of martyrs are in the bellies of green birds, dwelling in lanterns suspended from the 'Arsh (Throne).
