How should a woman act who suffers from irregular menstruation and the discharge of brown secretions after her usual days of menses? And must she purify herself, pray, and engage in intercourse based on her doctor's words?
A woman knows she has become pure from menstruation by one of two signs: dryness (the cotton comes out clean), or the white discharge (a white fluid that appears after menstruation). The maximum duration of menstruation is fifteen days, and any blood, yellowish discharge, or brownish discharge connected to it within this period is considered menstruation. If the blood and the yellowish or brownish discharge connected to it exceed fifteen days, then the woman is in a state of (non-menstrual bleeding).
In this case, the woman observes her previous habitual period, or she acts according to distinction, considering the days of dark blood as menstruation. She performs (ritual bath) after the completion of her menstrual days, and she performs wudu (ablution) for every prayer after its time has begun, praying with this wudu as many obligatory and supererogatory prayers as she wishes. A woman in a state of istihadah has all the rulings of pure women, including marital intimacy, until she recovers. After recovery, she returns to considering any blood she sees during the possible time of menstruation as menstruation, as well as any yellowish or brownish discharge connected to it.
