What should I do about my husband who mistreated me after our marriage, and about his family who hate me because he divulged our secrets and made false claims, especially given that what happened to me before marriage was due to sorcery?

A Muslim must keep secrets and not divulge them, because they are a trust, and divulging them is a betrayal. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When a man tells a story, then looks around, it is a trust." (Narrated by Al-Albani, who graded it حسن - good). The keeping of secrets is even more emphasized between spouses, especially concerning matters of intimacy, due to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: "Indeed, among the worst people in rank before Allah on the Day of Resurrection is a man who goes to his wife, and she goes to him, then he divulges her secret." (Narrated by Muslim). If the husband insists on causing harm and the wife can no longer bear it, she has the right to seek divorce or khul' (divorce at the wife's instance, usually with compensation), or to refer the matter to the court.
