Is it permissible to shorten and combine prayers when traveling a distance of 82 kilometers going and 75 kilometers returning?

The distance considered for shortening prayers (qasr) is calculated between the extremities of two towns, and it is approximately 83 kilometers according to the majority of scholars. If the routes for going and returning differ, and one of them meets the distance for qasr, then there is no objection to shortening prayers according to many scholars. However, if the distance traveled is less than that, the Malikis have stipulated that there is no obligation to repeat the prayer if the distance exceeds forty miles. Whereas the Shafi'is and Hanbalis hold that repeating the prayer is obligatory if the specified distance for qasr is not met. Therefore, it is cautious to repeat the prayer that was shortened when qasr is not permissible, in order to clear one's conscience.
