What is (incumbent) upon someone who shortened and combined prayers for two days in a city 74 km away from his city, thinking that it was a distance of travel, does he have to make up those prayers?

The majority of jurists hold that the distance for which prayer shortening (qasr) is permitted is approximately 80 kilometers, measured from the end of the built-up area of the first locality to the beginning of the built-up area of the second. However, some scholars believe that travel is defined by custom, not by distance.

If the distance traveled is less than 80 kilometers, the majority of jurists do not permit qasr. Regarding making up the prayers that were shortened, jurists differ on this matter. The Malikis do not require making them up if the distance reached 40 miles, whereas the Shafi'is and Hanbalis consider making them up obligatory.
