What should we do when we have cut ties with our mother's family after they assaulted us with insults, curses, and physical blows? And will our deeds not be accepted unless we return to them?

Among the objectives of Islamic law is to foster affection among believers, especially kin. Therefore, maintaining kinship ties is obligatory, and severing them is forbidden. Severing these ties incurs the curse of Allah. It has been narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who narrated from his Lord, saying to kinship: "Are you not pleased that I should connect with whoever connects with you, and cut off whoever cuts you off?" It said: "Yes, O Lord." He said: "Then that is so."

One should continue to strive for reconciliation and seek the help of people of knowledge and wisdom, and anyone whose words might influence them. The withholding of forgiveness for those who are in dispute does not include one who seeks reconciliation when the refusal comes from the other party.
