What are the rights resulting from the marriage contract (writing the contract) for both the husband and the wife before consummation?
Allah has legislated rulings to define marital rights and build the Muslim family, so that both parties may be happy and fulfill the rights of Allah and each other. Allah Almighty says: (And due to them [wives] is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable. But the men have a degree over them), and (And live with them in kindness), and (And do not forget the bounty between you).
It is incumbent upon the wife to obey her husband in what is reasonable, and she has the right to be treated kindly by him, to receive maintenance, clothing, and good treatment. The legally contracted wife has her rights and duties, but she is not entitled to maintenance and clothing until she enables her husband to consummate the marriage. She has the right to refuse travel and entry to him until he pays the dower.
