Does Islam permit keeping mice in the house?

The Islamic Sharia (definition) commanded the killing of mice due to the corruption resulting from their presence. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Five are mischievous creatures that should be killed in the lawful and sacred precincts: the mouse, the scorpion, the kite, the crow, and the rabid dog." They were called mischievous because they deviate from the usual nature of other animals, exhibiting a harmfulness that cannot be avoided. To keep them alive contravenes the Prophet's command, peace and blessings be upon him, to cleanse homes from harmful and noxious creatures.
