What is the ruling on directly deriving Sharia rulings from religious books without taking from students of knowledge?

Seeking knowledge is honorable and has many virtues. It can be acquired through various methods, such as learning from scholars, reading books, and utilizing recorded explanations. If a student of knowledge is capable of understanding books and cannot find scholars in their country, there is no sin upon them for relying on their own effort, while seeking assistance from the explanations of trustworthy scholars like Ibn Baz, Ibn Uthaymeen, and Al-Fawzan to ensure methodological soundness.

It is also important to sit with other students of knowledge and exchange benefits with them. The fundamental principle in seeking knowledge is to receive it from scholars, for knowledge is a craft that requires a skilled craftsman. It has been said: "Whoever enters into knowledge alone, departs alone," because knowledge was honorable, passed down among men, and when books became prevalent, those who were not qualified entered into it. Issuing a fatwa is a grave matter that requires knowledge and insight; otherwise, its issuer would be sinful.
