The question

Will Almighty Allah forgive the theft of credit cards belonging to disbelievers? And is the remaining money from it considered permissible (halal) for the questioner and his family to benefit from, especially since they are poor and needy? And does the money become permissible if the companies forgive it? What if they do not forgive?

The answer

Whoever unlawfully consumes people's wealth must return it to its owners. If he is unable to do so, the debt remains his responsibility, and he is absolved of sin if he was compelled by necessity. If the owners of the wealth forgive him, then there is no blame upon him. If they do not forgive him and he is unable to return it, then he must resolve to return it when able, increase in good deeds, and ask Allah to relieve him of the burden of this wealth. If it is impossible to return the wealth or seek the owner's forgiveness, he should give it away as charity on their behalf and increase in good deeds.
