The words denoting fasting in the Holy Qur’an are mentioned as follows: (صيام - fasting) in Surat Al-Baqarah (2:183, 187, 196), An-Nisa (4:92), Al-Ma’idah (5:89), and Al-Mujadilah (58:4). And (تصوموا - that you fast) in Al-Baqarah (2:184). And (فليصمه - then let him fast it) in Al-Baqarah (2:185). And (صياماً - a fasting) in Al-Ma’idah (5:95). And (صوماً - a fast) in Maryam (19:26). And (الصائمين - the fasting men) and (الصائمات - the fasting women) in Al-Ahzab (33:35).
