Is expiation required of the husband or the wife in cases of abortion due to the necessity of caring for the sick and weak? And does continuous fasting for two months get interrupted by menstruation? And is it true that abortion may cause God's punishment to befall one's children?

If the fetus has not completed forty days, its abortion is forbidden according to some scholars, and permissible with a degree of dislike according to the majority.

As for after forty days and before the ensoulment, it is not permissible except out of dire necessity, and some scholars have permitted it.

After the ensoulment, it is not permissible to abort it. If it is aborted intentionally after ensoulment, blood money (diyah) is obligatory upon the one who caused it, and there is a difference of opinion regarding the obligation of expiation (kaffarah).

If the fetus is aborted and human features have become apparent in it, menstruation does not prevent the continuous fasting of two months.
