Is it permissible to adopt a dog and place it on a farm far from the house to guard it, and what is the ruling on that, and will there be a reward for it?

The default ruling regarding keeping dogs is prohibition, except for a dog for livestock, hunting, or farming, in which case it is permissible. This is based on the Hadith: "Whoever keeps a dog, except a dog for livestock, hunting, or farming, will have a Qirat deducted from his reward every day." Scholars have agreed on the impermissibility of keeping a dog without need, but they differed on keeping it for guarding homes and gardens. The preponderant opinion is permissibility, by analogy with the three types of permissible dogs. If it is permissible to keep it, a person will be rewarded for feeding and watering it. If it is not permissible to keep it, then he bears a sin that deducts one or two Qirats from his reward every day.
