"Originally, gifts are desirable because they increase love and remove ill-will from the heart, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Give gifts to one another, for indeed, gifts remove ill-will from the heart.' As for giving a gift to the wife on the occasion of a wedding anniversary, or inviting her for dinner outside the home or traveling for this occasion, that is among the practices of the disbelievers, and a Muslim is required to oppose them."
