What is the legal ruling for someone who deliberately broke their fast in the past Ramadan and did not offer expiation (kaffara), and is their fasting for the current Ramadan valid?

The one who intentionally breaks their fast during the day in Ramadan is obligated to offer sincere repentance and make up the day they missed. Expiation (kaffarah) is only required if the breaking of the fast was due to intercourse, according to the majority of scholars. Their fasting for this current Ramadan is valid, and each day of Ramadan is an independent act of worship. Whoever delays making up the fast without a valid excuse until another Ramadan overtakes them must, in addition to making up the fast, pay a compensatory feeding of one poor person for each day.
