Is the ruling on a smoker the same as the ruling on a wine drinker?

Smoking is forbidden, as it is among the impure things (khaba'ith) and causes harm, based on His (Allah's) saying: "And He makes lawful for them the good things and makes unlawful for them the impure things," and the prophetic tradition: "There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm." As for alcohol, explicit proofs for its prohibition have been reported in the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the consensus of the Ummah, and the prescribed punishment for drinking alcohol in this world has been established. Although both are forbidden, the one who smokes does not reach the same degree as the one who drinks alcohol.
