The answer

The Commander of the Faithful, Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, was martyred by a treacherous sword blow from Abd al-Rahman ibn Muljam al-Muradi, on the dawn of Friday, the seventeenth of Ramadan, in the year 40 A.H. He survived Friday and Saturday, and passed away on Sunday night. The blow reached the crown of his head, which led to his death.
