The answer

Ahl al-Sunnah interpreted "the Face" in Allah Almighty's saying, "And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor," as referring to the Essence (Dhat). They did not consider this a contradiction to their principle of prohibiting ta'weel (allegorical interpretation) because this meaning is the apparent one from the لفظ (wording). The Face is an attribute of the Essence, and the remaining of the Face necessitates the remaining of the Essence. Furthermore, they prohibit ta'weel for which there is no evidence, and they affirm majaaz (figurative language) and ta'weel that is supported by evidence and does not contradict truth and correctness.
