Is the sin of looking at the 'awrah of women, such as the hand and face, like the sin of looking at the actual 'awrah, such as the private parts and so on?
Allah commanded believing men and women to lower their gaze from what is unlawful to look at. Allah the Almighty said: (Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts). The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade following a glance with another glance and commanded averting the gaze from a sudden, unintentional glance. Therefore, it is absolutely impermissible for a man to look at women, especially their severe 'awrah (parts that must be covered), due to the corruption that results from it. It is obligatory to lower the gaze in obedience to Allah's command and to curb the soul's desires.
