Is it obligatory to speak Arabic?

Speaking Arabic is not obligatory, but it is disliked to habitually use other languages for those who are proficient in it, except out of necessity. This is due to its negative impact on the intellect, character, and religion, and because habitually using it is considered a symbol of Islam and facilitates understanding the Book (Qur'an), the Sunnah, and the words of the Salaf (pious predecessors). Furthermore, the Arabic language is part of the religion, and knowing it is essential for understanding the Qur'an and the Sunnah.
