Is it considered subtle conceit to see a good quality in oneself and attribute it to Allah, while inwardly knowing that it is a great intrinsic quality, and should one not see any status for oneself in religious or worldly matters, and how can one thank Allah with this feeling?

"Ujub" (self-admiration) is the magnification of a blessing and reliance upon it, while forgetting to attribute it to the Bestower. It is not, however, a person's joy in the acts of obedience they perform, for this is evidence of their faith. To be saved from self-admiration, it is not necessary to consider oneself among the most wicked or most despicable of people. Rather, what is required is not to magnify blessings or rely upon them, and not to forget to attribute them to Allah Almighty, and to expend them in what pleases Him. For the feeling of a blessing is the first step towards thanking for it.
