The answer

Islam has ordained rights for the wife upon her husband, and others for the husband upon his wife. Among the financial rights of the wife are: the dowry, maintenance, and housing. Among her non-financial rights are: justice between wives, good companionship, and not harming her. As for the husband's rights upon his wife, they are greater, and include: the obligation of obedience, enabling him to enjoy intimacy, not allowing anyone he dislikes into his house, not leaving the house except with his permission, and he has the right to discipline her righteously if she disobeys, serving him righteously, surrendering herself to him, and accompanying him righteously.
