What is the religious ruling on a man divorcing his wife with the words "you are divorced by three" in a moment of anger?

Anger does not prevent the occurrence of divorce as long as the person is aware of what he is saying. Divorce pronounced with the triple utterance counts as three divorces according to the majority of scholars, and the wife becomes irrevocably divorced (baynunah kubra), and she is not permissible for him until she marries another husband. Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah holds the view that it counts as one divorce, so if he had not divorced her more than once before that, he can take her back as long as she is within her waiting period ('iddah).
