What is the Sharia ruling on a wife asking how to expiate for the sin of lying to her family by denying her request for divorce from her husband, and what is the ruling on a husband's oath of divorce that his wife not speak with her friends, and does divorce occur if she violates this oath, given the husband's intention was to threaten, not to divorce?

If the wife speaks to her friends after the husband swears an oath of divorce, divorce takes effect according to the majority of scholars. However, Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah holds that such an oath does not bring about divorce, but rather obligates the one who swore it to pay an expiation for breaking an oath.

If the husband abuses his wife and insults her family, he is an oppressor, and the wife has the right to refer his case to a judge to deter him or to rule for divorce due to harm.

It is advisable to try to reach an understanding with the husband and remind him of the rights of marital relations conducted with kindness.

Divorce is not a disgrace; it may be better for both spouses. Allah the Almighty says: "But if they separate, Allah will enrich each from His abundance."

The wife's family does not have the right to prevent her from divorcing if the husband persists in his ill-treatment.
