Is it permissible to visit the grave of a Christian for the purpose of visiting only, without the intention of supplicating for them?

There is no objection to a Muslim visiting the grave of someone who died as a Christian. Shafi'i and Hanbali jurists have explicitly stated the permissibility of this. Some Shafi'is specified that this permissibility applies to a close relative or friend who was a disbeliever, citing as evidence the Prophet's (peace be upon him) request to his Lord for permission to visit his mother's grave, which was granted, and his saying, "Visit graves, for they remind you of death." It must be noted that one should not offer salutations to a disbeliever when visiting their grave.
